This immune-boosting blue spirulina juice is one of my favorite anti-inflammatory, gut-healing recipes. It’s packed with superfoods like blue spirulina, fresh ginger, cucumber, mint, and crisp apple. It’s refreshing, naturally sweetened, and so simple to prepare. The cooling mint and hydrating cucumber pair beautifully with the subtle spice of ginger, while a drizzle of maple balances everything with a little sweetness.

Anti-Inflammatory & Immune-Boosting Benefits of Blue Spirulina Juice:
Blue spirulina is one of my favorite anti-inflammatory superfoods! Read more about the healing power of blue spirulina in this blog post.
- Blue Spirulina: This blue phycocyanin extract from algae is often known for its fun color boost to drinks and smoothies. However, this superfood extract has an impressive amount of benefits. Not only is it rich in many vitamins and minerals, it is loaded with iron and protein. The phycocyanin is a powerful anti-inflammatory. If you are needing a boost of energy or striving to decrease inflammation then this nutrient-packed organism is a wonderful addition to your beverages and smoothies.
- Ginger: Ginger is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory roots on the planet. It supports immunity, soothes digestion, and adds the perfect warming kick to this juice.
- Mint: Mint is soothing for the digestive system and naturally anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antibacterial. It adds a refreshing, cooling layer that pairs beautifully with the ginger and cucumber.
- Cucumber: This nutrient-rich vegetable is largely water, making it excellent for hydration.
- Apple: I always think of that old phrase “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Apples are a fantastic source of fiber and immune-boosting vitamin C. Apples contain quercetin, a powerful antioxidant that is known to combat inflammation and fight free radicals in our bodies. Be sure to keep the skin on your apple when juicing, that is where a large amount of the quercetin is found.
- Maple: While not typically considered a superfood, maple is loaded with antioxidants and minerals like magnesium, potassium, zinc, and calcium.

Tips for Making the Best Anti-Inflammatory Blue Spirulina Juice:
When possible, I recommend choosing organic produce. Reducing pesticide exposure is a huge part of supporting our gut health, hormones, and inflammation levels. Clean ingredients truly make a difference in an anti-inflammatory lifestyle. Read more about why I prioritize organic foods in my anti-inflammatory lifestyle.
You can try any variety of apple in this blue spirulina juice. My preference is to use Honeycrisp apples in this juice recipe. Honeycrisp apples are not too overly sweet but rather have a nice smooth, crisp flavor.
For even more added anti-inflammatory benefits try adding just a small touch of fresh turmeric. The immune-boosting benefits are high while adding a small amount is light enough to not alter the smooth flavor combination in this blue spirulina juice.
Using a Cold-Pressed Juicer (or Blender!):
This recipe is made using a cold-pressed or slow juicer. Really, any juicer will work. A cold-pressed juicer just helps to retain more of the nutrition that can escape from the heat of processing. Before I invested in our cold-pressed juicer, I used to make juice in my blender. I would then strain the pulp out with a cheese-cloth and sieve. I have not tried that with this juice recipe. If I were to try it I’d add a small splash of liquid in the blender with the ingredients. Coconut water often pairs well with many juices and I think could be a nice combination in this juice. Let me know in the comments below if this is something you try.
How to Store Your Immune-Boosting Blue Spirulina Juice:
This immune-boosting blue spirulina juice is best enjoyed fresh to preserve the highest nutrient levels. Because juice begins to oxidize once it’s processed, I prefer making small batches at a time. If you do store leftovers, keep them in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator and enjoy within 24-48 hours for the most benefits.
You can also freeze batches of this juice to have on hand, ready to thaw when you need it! Freezing the juice will help preserve the nutritional benefits. If you freeze this in glass jars, be sure to leave room at the top for expansion.
Immune-Boosting Blue Spirulina Juice Recipe:
You will need:
- 2 apples (honeycrisp)
- 1 cucumber
- 1 inch of ginger root
- a small handful of fresh mint
- 1 tsp of blue sprirulina powder
- 2-3 tsp of maple depending on preferred sweetness
- optional cubed ice
Immune-Boosting Blue Spirulina Juice Instructions:
- Gather your ingredients and wash your produce.
- Cut up the apple (remembering to leave the skin on), cucumber and ginger root. The size of chunks will vary depending on your juicer and its recommended capacity for larger chunks of fruit and veggies.
- Turn on your juicer and begin adding the apple, cucumber, ginger, and mint to the juicer. I like to alternate between the ingredients when feeding my juicer. Feed all of the apple, cucumber, ginger, and mint into your juicer.
- Empty the juice contents into a container large enough to stir or froth the remaining ingredients in.
- Add the blue spirulina powder and maple to your juice.
- Stir all the ingredients until combined. I sometimes prefer to use a frother or aggressive stir to keep the blue spriulina powder from clumping.
- Pour into a glass with ice and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions About Blue Spirulina Juice:
Can you taste the blue spirulina in this juice?
Surprisingly, no! Blue spirulina has a very mild flavor, especially compared to green spirulina. In this immune-boosting blue spirulina juice, the amount used is enough to deliver powerful anti-inflammatory benefits without altering the refreshing flavor of the apple, ginger, cucumber, and mint.
Does blue spirulina have a fishy taste?
Blue spirulina should not taste fishy. High-quality blue spirulina (like Blue Majik from E3Live) has a clean, neutral taste. A fishy smell or flavor is usually a sign of low-quality spirulina or one that contains more of the green algae components. When using a pure blue spirulina extract, your juice stays smooth, vibrant, and delicious.
Can I make this juice without a juicer?
Absolutely. If you don’t have a juicer, blend all ingredients with a splash of coconut water and strain through a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve. The texture will be slightly different but still refreshing, anti-inflammatory, and full of nutrients.
Is blue spirulina good for inflammation?
Yes—blue spirulina is rich in antioxidants and phycocyanin, a compound known for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties. It supports immune function, gut health, and cellular repair, making it an excellent addition to anti-inflammatory diets and healing routines. I love this drink! I went overboard on the ginger. It was a little spicy, but still delicious.
That extra spice lets you know it is loaded with the anti-inflammatory benefits of the ginger. You can add a little more maple to tone down the spice.

Brand of Blue spirulina that you recommended! Thanks sharing this recipe!!
I’ve never heard of this juice but it looks delicious! Can’t wait to try it!
Never heard of blue spirulina, but this juice looks delicious. Sounds like it might be beneficial to drink this before the cold and flu season. Is this something that kids would like drinking?
Definitely, this is so beneficial for cold and flu season. I think it would depend on the kid’s preferences. If they like apples, sweetness, and a little spice (from the ginger) then I’m sure they would love it. You can’t taste the spirulina in it. If they aren’t a fan of the spice from the ginger you could add a little extra maple to balance it with more sweetness.
I’m excited to try this recipe when I get back from vacation! Looks delicious and I love the noted health benefits.
I love this drink and the ginger content is a great boost for immune.
